On a cool February morning at 6am, the Centre 56 team stood at Hunts Cross Station preparing to wave Alex Rigby off on his 56-mile challenge.

6 months of training, planning, promoting, and hoping, finally, came together into a day that did not disappoint!

With the last of the pledged donations arriving this week, we are delighted to announce his final total stands at an incredible £27,004.29 – and there are so many people we’d like to thank!

Centre 56 Manager, Paula Graves said: “It felt like the whole of Liverpool had rallied behind Alex for this challenge and we’re so thankful to every single person who took part in the relay and all those who helped make the event the huge success it was.

“Centre 56 has been quietly doing what we do for more than 50 years now, and having this opportunity to tell everyone about that and the difference they can make to our little ones and their families has meant the world.”

“We’re so proud of Alex for completing this challenge, and for the incredible progress he has made in his role as our Fundraising Officer! We’ve never had support like this before and it’s really exciting!”

Alex completed the challenge in 11 hours and 39 minutes and was supported throughout by relay teams from local businesses, community organisations and running clubs. Almost £3,000 was donated to his challenge on the day, with bucket collectors in Merseyrail Stations, local cafés collecting and donations flooding in online.

Alex said, “It was the most amazing day, and I couldn’t believe how generous everyone was from the start. While it’s a fantastic amount, it was just as important to me to raise awareness of what Centre 56 does, spreading the word around the city region and uniting the community for our cause!”

“I’m excited for what we’ll be able to do in the future, working with all the new connections we’ve made through this challenge to make even more good things happen for Centre 56.”
