On Friday 28th February, our Fundraising Officer Alex Rigby will take on his toughest challenge yet, a 107-mile ultra-marathon covering the full Merseyrail Network to raise over £35,000 for Centre 56.
His route will take him to all 69 stations across the Wirral and Northern Lines, starting in Chester at 3pm and finishing at Hunts Cross, visiting key locations including Ellesmere Port, West Kirby, New Brighton, Headbolt Lane, Ormskirk, and Southport.
The event is backed by Rise Construction Framework, a long-time supporter of Centre 56 and the lead challenge partner. Rise, led by Director, Sara Lawton, has played a vital role in funding and advocating for the charity’s work, ensuring vulnerable families receive essential support and care.
Speaking about the challenge, Centre 56 Fundraising Officer, Alex Rigby said: “Centre 56 is an incredible place providing life-changing support to families in crisis. Every day, I see the impact of donations keeping food on tables, and ensuring children have a safe place to grow and thrive. Running 107 miles will be painful, but knowing it helps families escape abuse makes it all worth it.
“We’re so grateful that Rise Construction Framework is supporting us as our lead challenge partner. The support Rise has given us over the years has enabled Centre 56 to expand its services and continue offering specialist childcare for children who have experienced trauma. Having Sara run with me on the last leg will really help to give me that final push over the finish line”
Sara Lawton, Director of Rise Construction Framework, said: “We are immensely proud to support Centre 56 and Alex in this challenge. Rise has worked with Centre 56 for years, and we have seen first-hand the incredible difference they make in children’s lives. Domestic abuse continues to be a crisis in our communities, and we must do everything we can to provide safe spaces for families in need. Alex’s commitment is inspiring, and we encourage everyone to get behind him”
Lesley Burrows, Executive Director at The Regenda Group, added: “Centre 56’s work has never been more critical. With domestic abuse on the rise, the need for secure, supportive environments for children is greater than ever. Alex’s challenge, and the generosity of organisations like Rise Construction Framework and Merseyrail, will ensure we can continue to be a lifeline for families facing unimaginable difficulties.”
The challenge is further supported by Merseyrail, whose team members including Managing Director Neil Grabham will join Alex on sections of the route. Digital screens across the rail network will display challenge details and encourage donations.
Please support Alex as he takes on this incredible challenge.
