Celebrating 50 years of supporting families

For 50 years, we’ve been supporting families who have suffered from, or are at risk of suffering from, domestic abuse or crisis.

2023 marks 50 years of Centre 56 delivering their services – and we celebrated in style. Our annual family fun day was bigger and better than ever with magicians, bouncy castles and all the fairground games.

As always, our fun day was an opportunity for families and supporters to come together to reflect on our remarkable history.

Children and staff put together a time capsule, planted by Grace and James, two of our longest-standing attendees! The time capsule included clippings and photos of key moments from our history, the thumbprints of all our children currently at the nursery and a copy of the days Liverpool Echo. The time capsule was buried underneath a tree donated by M&Y Maintenance and Construction, which we hope will still be there in another 50.

We invited our children, families, and supporters to write wishes to place on the tree, expressing hopes for health, wealth and happiness among other items such as bikes and cats!

Niki Duncalf, Deputy Children’s Support Manager, commented on the day:

“Our fun day was a great way to celebrate an amazing 50 years of our service. It was lovely to see all our families and so many new faces from our community who came to show their support. It was a pleasure to be able to help Grace, James and our friends at M&Y Maintenance and Construction to bury our time capsule.

“All of us here at Centre 56 wish that we weren’t still needed, but we are. I hope that we will be able to continue delivering our vital services for as long as we are.”

As part of their 50th birthday appeal, we are still hoping to raise £50,000 to start making some of these wishes come true.
