Full bellies, fuller hearts: How summer funding transformed lives at our Centre 56

Centre 56 Beach Day

At Centre 56, we do more than provide early years education. We offer a lifeline to families affected by domestic abuse. For the children in our care, our nursery is more than a place to learn and play. It’s a safe, nurturing space where they can begin to heal, grow, and thrive.

Unlike standard nursery provision, we offer extended hours of free childcare, provide additional meals to combat food poverty, and create a truly trauma-informed environment. But none of this is possible without the support of generous funders and donors.

This summer, thanks to funding from the Government’s Holiday Activities and Food Programme (HAF), we were able to deliver a dedicated Holiday Club for children aged 5–12, ensuring our school-aged children had the summer they truly deserved.

What summer looked like at our nursery:

With this vital funding, we delivered:

  • 1,620 nutritious meals and snacks, ensuring no child went hungry during the holidays
  • A beach day with our families, a joyful escape and a chance to make happy memories together
  • A cinema trip, for some, their first time experiencing the magic of the big screen
  • An adventurous day at the Crocky Trail, building confidence through outdoor play and exploration
  • Seven creative workshops, including soap making and jelly painting, sparking imagination and self-expression

These experiences are more than just fun days out. They help children build confidence, strengthen family bonds, and feel a sense of belonging all of which are essential for recovery and development.

Why Funding Matters

Without funding like this, the children in our care would miss out on many of these experiences. Many of our families face significant financial hardship, and opportunities like these are simply out of reach without support. Our days out welcome the whole family, giving them the chance to create memories together which will last a lifetime.

Your donations help us continue this work, not just in summer, but all year round. Every contribution helps us provide meals, activities, and a safe space for children who need it most.

How You Can Help

If you believe every child deserves a safe start and joyful memories, consider supporting our work. Whether through donatingfundraising, or volunteering, you’ll be helping us create brighter futures for families affected by domestic abuse.
